Comments: The nozzle prevented me from packing the tank like I normally do. I normally get another 1-2 gallons after the pump shuts off. The trip to Ocean City is all highway miles so it should get good MPG but probably not this good!

How much mulch will a Ridgeline carry?

One of our questions from readers is how much cargo can the bed of the Honda Ridgeline carry?

Well today I had 18 bags of 2 cu ft mulch loaded in the back. Probably could have added a few more bags with more careful loading. All of this is WITH the tonneau cover attached.

We were able to get 9 bags up front under the tonneau cover which was folded back. You can see from the pic that the bags can be stacked 4 high. You can get 3 across even though we didn’t do it in the pictured example. Although we safely moved 18 bags, I think you could probably get 21 bags total with careful loading.

Honda Ridgeline Tire Rotation

As you have noticed, I do nearly all of my routine, preventative maintenance on my Honda Ridgeline, as well as the other family vehicles.

Tire rotations are so important. The indicator on the dashboard generally have you rotate tires every 7,500 miles.

When I rotate my tires, I take the spare out of the trunk and remove the drivers rear tire and put the spare on that wheel. Then I just go to all 4 wheels in this sequence:

Driver’s Rear tire goes to Passenger Front position.
Passenger Front goes to Passenger Rear position. (Straight back!)
Passenger Rear goes to Driver’s Front position.
Driver’s Front goes to Driver’s Rear.

This is called a modified X tire rotation. In short. the front tires go straight back on the same side of the vehicle, and the rear tires go on the opposite front wheel.

This way, the tires turn in both directions, and wear evenly.

Toyota Recalls – My advice!

Last month, Toyota issued safety recalls for a number of their very popular vehicle lineup. As General Motors and Ford position their dealers to take advantage of Toyota’s weak response, Honda dealers should benefit from this as well. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, Honda may be your best choice. Sales were off in the US for Honda by 6% last month. Honda should be motivated to improve on those numbers. If you were in the market for an SUV or a Pickup, the Honda Ridgeline would be a fine choice. It is the perfect blend of utility and refinement for the average suburban homeowner. With the Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, Odyssey, Pilot and other models, surely there is one to meet the needs of your family.

Every company faces challenges. But the true measure of a company is how they respond to adversity. First Toyota vehicles suffered from “Floor Mat Entrapment” and now that has been expanded to a full “Pedal” recall. The Pedal recall is very serious because the pedal is stuck in a partially depressed position.

It is still too early to tell what the fallout will be from their perceived denial and slow response on such a huge safety concern. My personal opinion is that they will (finally) confront this issue, repair their customer’s vehicles, and continue to be the #1 car maker in the world.

Comments: I’ve driven this Ridgeline for over 4 years now. It is truly a fantastic vehicle. A couple of Sundays ago, we used it to pick up a piece of furniture. Tomorrow we’ll go pick up a new baby crib. In a few weeks, I’m sure we’ll be hauling lumber or mulch with it. But I still love how quiet and comfortable it is, making it a complete pleasure to drive.

Perhaps it is a blessing in disguise. But we lost the entire website last week to a hard drive crash. We did not have a backup of the database. So we will spend the near future re-creating this website and rebuilding it better than before.

We are still great supporters of the Honda Ridgeline. My truck came home 4 years and 1 month ago and I still enjoy it like I did on that day. Today we used it to bring home some baby furniture. It is a fantastic family vehicle.
