Check Fuel Cap message
I'm convinced this is one of Honda's methods of getting their vehicles back to the dealers service lanes. I had a Suburban and when I took delivery of that vehicle new, the gas cap wasn't tightened properly and the Check Engine light came on. Since then, whether it's on my Corvette, or Ridgeline, when I fill the tank, I click the gas cap.
With the Ridgeline, the Check Fuel Cap message has appeared 4 or 5 times since I bought it. So I have decided to monitor these occurences to help verify my suspicion that perhaps Honda simply programs this message to display every so often. Simply put, I tighten the gas cap so I should NEVER see this message. If the gas cap failed, the light should stay on until I replace the cap. This is not the case as the light is on and eventually goes away.
So with this instance, the Check Fuel Cap came on at 25254 miles, and was no longer displaying during startup when the odometer reading was at 25508. So, the message was displayed during every startup for 250 miles. If this theory doesn't pan out then I'll begin counting the number of engine starts.
